What is ITI?
International Theatre Institute (ITI) is an international network of the performing arts and related field under the patronage of UNESCO.

ITI was founded in 1948 as a non-governmental organisation of UNESCO, with the objective to promote the cultural exchange among different nations, in the realm of the theatre. It was designed to deepen the mutual understanding and stimulate creative collaboration among those working in theatre. Last but not least ITI,  was conceived to further the ideals and goals of UNESCO through the active nurturing of friendships and peace.

How is ITI structured?
ITI has permanent offices in the UNESCO center in Paris. At the present there are 89 associated national centers. These centers provide a regular information flow regarding the various theater activities of the individual countries, including information about continuing developments in education and promotion of the performing arts. ITI collaborates with a large number of international organisations associated with theatre and related areas.

How does ITI work??
ITI meets every two years for an international ITI congress. At that time an election of presiding members, an executive counsel (Excom) and various committee members takes place. The executive council is responsible in directing international interests. The various committees consist of work groups which initiate and carry out their own projects: seminars, workshops, publications, etc.

At present there are following committees: Dance, New Theatre, Dramatic Theatre, Education, Communication, Cultural Identity and Development, Musical Theatre and the open committee called The International Playwrights' Forum.
